As a proponent of the versatile Cormorant hull, I'll say that they are not useless in PvP in the least. As is the birthright of any destroyer, the Cormie can lay waste to nearly any frigate...and quickly.
Be it the close range Blaster boat with a light shield tank and tackle: http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/55687-Cormorant-My-First-Loadout-Comorant-pvp.html
Or the various untanked sniper fits: http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/59161-Cormorant-Sniper.html http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/55687-Cormorant-My-First-Loadout-Comorant-pvp.html
In either "role" the Cormorant is going to bring 7 turrets to bear on ships that simply aren't designed to take that kind of abuse. With an MWD (or AB)+sniper fit (as linked above), the Cormorant is capable not only of bringing considerable firepower to bear against a frigate, but it is capable of dictating range for long enough to neutralize nearly any frigate hull.
...and that's not even addressing the Cormorant's adequate capability of serving as a cheap salvage ship.
All in all, the Cormorant, like its other destroyer compatriots, if put in the right hands, can prove to be a thorn in the side of even the most experienced frigate pilot. |

Thank you CCP.
Wait...destroyer gangs didn't work on macks and hulks before? |

Thank you CCP. Wait...destroyer gangs didn't work on macks and hulks before? I think you can use 1 less on each now. I.E. you used to need 3 for a hulk and 2 for a mack, now you need 2 and 1 respectively. I never got ganked by less than 9 TBH.
Pretty much that. When we were suiciding in destroyer flotillas, it was always at least 5 + a couple frigs and a nearby indy in case we got the pilot to eject. |

Doesn't fit with T2 fittings, but it doesn't have to. This is enough to screw over all T1 frigates and most AFs/ceptors, solo, for a 2.5 mil ISK price tag. Overheating required.
Very solid. I like the twin web set up to allow this cormie to both dictate range and do more damage out further. I've seen something similar in an old gank gang I ran with, but with 2 small differences.
1. Nuet/Vamp instead of salvager 2. Magnetic Vortex Stabilizer I instead of Damage Control |

I don't fit neut/vamp since I should never be within 6-7 km (this fit fights at 11-12 km), and the DCU gives a lot more survivability for the damage that does leak through. The MFS does give a bunch more damage, though.
Fair point on the neut/vamp - if you're "sniping" on your cormie, then that's probably wasted itemization. Wish there was something better than a salvager for that slot. No need for that for gang ops... and you're probably not solo'ing in that. Are you? |
